Their story

James Scott, 1st Duke of Monmouth, born in Rotterdam on April 19, 1649, was a notable figure in 17th-century English history. As an illegitimate son of King Charles II, he held a prominent, if complex, position within the House of Stuart. Though he was never officially Duke of York, nor monarch of Scotland, England, or Ireland, his royal lineage provided him with significant influence during his lifetime. His story culminated in his execution at Tower Hill on July 25, 1685, marking a pivotal moment in the succession struggles of the era.
