Their story

Henry Benedict Stuart, born in Rome in 1725, was a significant figure in the House of Stuart. As the grandson of the deposed King James II, he was central to Jacobite aspirations. He held several titles, including Duke of York, and was styled by Jacobite supporters as monarch of Scotland, England, and Ireland following his father's death. Though he never reigned, his life reflected the ongoing complexities of succession and dynastic claims in 18th-century Europe. He dedicated his later years to an ecclesiastical career, ultimately becoming a cardinal. Henry Benedict Stuart passed away in Frascati in 1807, the last legitimate Stuart claimant to the British throne.
