Their story
Joan of England, born in Gloucester on July 29, 1210, was a daughter of King John and Isabella of Angoulême. As a member of the powerful House of Plantagenet, her life was shaped by royal lineage. She journeyed to Scotland in 1221 to marry King Alexander II, a union intended to forge peace between their two kingdoms. Though their marriage produced no surviving children, Joan held the esteemed title of Queen of Scots. In addition to her royal duties, she also held the significant position of Lord Warden of the Cinque Ports for a period. Queen Joan passed away in Havering-atte-Bower on March 11, 1238, at the age of twenty-seven.
