Their story
Peter II, born in Saint Petersburg in 1715, ascended to the Russian throne as Emperor of All the Russias in 1727. As a grandson of Peter the Great, he represented the male line of the House of Romanov. His brief reign was significantly influenced by various court factions vying for power. He exhibited a preference for hunting over affairs of state, leading to neglect of his imperial duties. Tragically, Peter II died of smallpox in Moscow in 1730, leaving no direct heir and bringing an end to the direct male line of the Romanov dynasty. His passing instigated a succession crisis, profoundly impacting the future of the Russian Empire.
