Their story
Albert Hohenzollern, born in Ansbach in 1490, was a pivotal figure in European history. Initially serving as the Grand Master of the Teutonic Knights, he presided over a significant transformation of the order's territories. In 1525, he secularized the Monastic State of the Teutonic Order, establishing the Duchy of Prussia and becoming its first Duke. This act marked a profound shift in the region's political and religious landscape, aligning Prussia with the burgeoning Protestant Reformation. His reign as Duke saw the establishment of Königsberg University, a notable center of learning. Albert Hohenzollern passed away in Burg Tapiau in 1568.
