Their story

Empress Elisabeth, born Elisabeth Amalie Eugenie of Bavaria in Munich on December 24, 1837, was a prominent figure of the 19th century. A member of the esteemed House of Wittelsbach, she bore the title Duchess in Bavaria from birth. Her marriage to Emperor Franz Joseph I in 1854 led to her powerful position as Empress of Austria and later Queen of Hungary, shaping her life and that of the Empire. Known for her beauty and sometimes unconventional spirit, her later years were marked by personal tragedies and a yearning for freedom from courtly life. She died in Geneva on September 10, 1898.
