Their story
Thomas, 2nd Earl of Lancaster, a grandson of King Henry III, was born in 1278. As one of England's wealthiest and most powerful magnates, he held significant influence during the reign of his cousin, King Edward II. He acquired the Lordship of Bowland. Among his prominent roles, he served as Lord Warden of the Cinque Ports, a strategic position responsible for coastal defense. A leading figure among the baronial opposition, Thomas championed reforms and sought to limit royal power. His political struggle culminated in his execution at Pontefract in 1322, marking a turbulent period in English history.
