Their story
Ferdinando I de' Medici was born in Florence on August 9, 1549, a scion of the influential House of Medici. His early career saw him serve as a Cardinal, holding that ecclesiastical office for over two decades. In 1587, he succeeded his brother as Grand Duke of Tuscany, a position he held until his death. During his rule, Ferdinando was recognized for his economic policies, which fostered prosperity, and his efforts to expand Tuscan influence. He actively promoted trade and arts, leaving a lasting impact on the region. He passed away in his native Florence on February 17, 1609.
