Their story
Arthur I, born in Nantes on April 5, 1187, was a Plantagenet prince whose brief life was marked by political turmoil. As Duke of Brittany and claimant to the English throne, his position inevitably embroiled him in the conflicts of his powerful uncle, King John. Though his personal reign was cut short, Arthur’s claim to succession and his ultimate demise at Rouen Castle on April 10, 1203, profoundly impacted the dynastic struggles of his era. He held the additional title of Lord Warden of the Cinque Ports, a significant administrative role despite his youth. His story remains a poignant chapter in medieval Anglo-French history.
