Their story
James V, born at Linlithgow Palace in 1512, ascended the Scottish throne as a young child. A monarch of the House of Stuart, he undertook the formidable task of governing a kingdom often fraught with internal divisions and external pressures. His reign saw efforts to strengthen royal authority and manage relations with both England and France. Though he also held the titles Duke of York, and monarch of England and Ireland, this was in name only. His death at Falkland Palace in 1542, at a relatively young age, marked a pivotal moment in Scottish history, leaving his infant daughter, Mary, to inherit the crown.
