Their story

Balthasar Charles, Prince of Asturias, was born in Madrid in 1629, the only son of King Philip IV of Spain and Elizabeth of France to survive infancy. As heir apparent to the Spanish throne, he held the titles of Prince of Asturias and Duke of Montblanc. His early life was marked by the expectations placed upon a future monarch, and he was educated accordingly. He was a figure of hope for the Spanish monarchy during a period of significant political and military challenges. Sadly, his life was cut short when he died in Zaragoza in 1646, at the age of seventeen, leaving a profound impact on the succession and future of the Spanish Habsburg dynasty.
