Their story

Joan, Lady of Wales, born in France around 1191, was a prominent figure of the early 13th century. As an illegitimate daughter of King John of England, her lineage connected her to the powerful House of Plantagenet. She wed Llywelyn the Great, Prince of Gwynedd and ultimately of all Wales, thereby solidifying a significant political alliance between England and Wales. Throughout her life, Joan served as a royal emissary, working to foster a delicate peace between her husband and her half-brother, Henry III. She also held the title of Lord Warden of the Cinque Ports. Joan passed away in Wales in 1237, leaving a notable legacy as a woman who navigated complex political landscapes with considerable skill.
