Their story

James Stewart, 1st Earl of Buchan, born in 1445, was a significant figure within the powerful House of Stuart. While he bore the title of 1st Earl of Buchan, he was a half-brother to King James II of Scotland, connecting him directly to the Scottish monarchy. His life, spanning much of the 15th century, saw him navigate the complexities of Scottish court politics. He was a prominent landlord, holding estates primarily in the north-east of Scotland. While his own influence was considerable, his lineage anchored him firmly to the royal family. He passed away in 1499.
