Their story
Louis XIV, born in 1638 at the Château de Saint-Germain-en-Laye, reigned as King of France and Navarre, French Co-Prince of Andorra, and Count of Foix, as a member of the House of Bourbon. His extraordinary 72-year rule, the longest of any European monarch, profoundly shaped France. Under his authority, the monarchy’s power centralized, and the nation's political and cultural influence expanded across Europe. He oversaw significant periods of artistic and architectural development, most notably the construction of the Palace of Versailles, which became the seat of his government and a symbol of French grandeur. Louis XIV died in 1715 at the Palace of Versailles, leaving a lasting legacy on European statecraft and culture.
