Their story
Henry FitzRoy, 5th Duke of Grafton, was born at Southill on February 10, 1790. A descendant of the House of Stuart, he inherited a distinguished lineage. While the titles of Duke of York, monarch of Scotland, monarch of England, and King of Ireland are notable historical distinctions, these were held by earlier members of the expansive Royal Family, not by FitzRoy himself. He succeeded to the dukedom of Grafton in 1844. His life was largely spent within the British aristocracy, and he held a prominent position within his social sphere. He passed away at Wakefield Lodge on March 26, 1863.
