Their story
James III, born at Stirling Castle on July 19, 1451, ascended to the Scottish throne in 1460, succeeding his father. His reign was marked by ongoing conflicts with the nobility and southern neighbours. He pursued policies aimed at strengthening royal authority, often clashing with Parliament over governance and finance. His efforts to cultivate an alliance with England through diplomatic initiatives proved largely unsuccessful. A patron of the arts and architecture, he devoted significant attention to cultural pursuits. His reign concluded tragically on June 20, 1488, near Stirling, amidst a rebellion led by his own son, James IV. He remains a complex figure in Scottish history.
