Their story
James II, born at Holyrood Abbey in 1430, ascended to the Scottish throne as a child. A monarch of the House of Stuart, his reign was marked by efforts to strengthen royal authority amidst a turbulent political landscape. He confronted powerful noble families, working to consolidate the crown's power across his kingdom. His rule also saw campaigning against England, a continuation of the long-standing Anglo-Scottish conflicts. James II met his end at Roxburgh in 1460, during a siege, his life cut short in service to his realm. He is recognized for his determined pursuit of a more stable Scottish monarchy.
