Their story
Henry IV, born Henry Bolingbroke in 1367, ascended to the English throne in 1399, becoming the first monarch of the House of Lancaster. His reign followed the deposition of Richard II, a significant event in English history. Prior to his kingship, he held the title of Lord Warden of the Cinque Ports, demonstrating his early roles of responsibility. As king, Henry faced numerous challenges, including rebellions and a difficult relationship with Parliament, yet he worked to consolidate his authority. He died in 1413 at Westminster, leaving a complex legacy as a monarch who navigated a tumultuous period in England's past.
