Privacy Policy

In plain English

1. Who we are

Dynasty House is operated by Euler's Identity, LLC ("Dynasty House," "we," "us"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use the Service, how we use and protect it, who we share it with, and the choices and rights you have. It applies to dynasty.house, its subdomains, our APIs, and the embeddable widgets. It works alongside our Terms of Service.

2. The information we collect

Account information. Your email address and name, and either a securely hashed password or, if you sign in with Google, a Google account identifier. We never see or store your Google password.

Tree data you create or import. The people, dates, places, relationships, marriages, notes, biographies, and source details you enter or import (for example, from a GEDCOM file). By its nature this includes information about other people — including living relatives who are not users. You provide this; see Section 8.

Media you upload. Photos, cover images, wallpapers, and documents you add to a tree.

Payment information. If you subscribe, payment is handled entirely by Stripe. We receive confirmation and limited billing metadata (such as plan, status, and the last four digits / card brand Stripe provides) — your full card number never touches our servers.

Communications. Messages, feedback, and support requests you send us.

Technical & usage data. Basic logs needed to operate and secure the Service — such as IP address, browser/device type, timestamps, and error and request information generated by our hosting provider. We do not build advertising profiles from this.

3. How we use your information

  • to provide, maintain, and secure the Service and your account;
  • to store, render, and let you edit, import, export, and publish your trees;
  • to generate the AI-assisted output you request (Section 6);
  • to offer optional relative-matching and notifications (Section 7);
  • to process subscriptions and send transactional email (welcome, password reset, notifications, billing) via Resend;
  • to respond to you, prevent abuse and fraud, enforce our Terms, and comply with law; and
  • to understand which features are used so we can improve the Service — using the least personal information necessary, and never to target ads.

What we never do: we do not sell or rent your personal information; we do not share it with data brokers; we do not use your family data to train our own AI models; and we do not run third-party advertising or behavioral ad trackers.

4. Cookies & similar technologies

We use only essential cookies and local storage — to keep you signed in, remember your place in a tree, and keep the Service secure. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. Because these are strictly necessary to provide a service you asked for, the Service works without an ad-consent banner; you can still clear cookies in your browser, though doing so will sign you out.

5. Privacy by default & publishing

Every tree is private by default — visible only to you and the people you invite. You may choose to publish a tree as a public "house" (at yourname.dynasty.house) or to place an embeddable card on another site. When you publish, we apply automatic redaction designed to keep living people hidden, and you choose what categories (faces, names, places, browsable tree, AI story) appear. Publishing is your decision and your responsibility; once information is public, copies may be cached by search engines or other sites beyond our control. You can unpublish at any time.

6. AI-assisted features & your data

Some optional features use AI — drafting a life story, answering a question about a tree, generating an overview, or designing a crest. Only when you invoke one of these features, we send the relevant tree information to our AI subprocessor (OpenRouter, which routes the request to a model provider such as Anthropic or Google) to generate the output you asked for. We instruct these features to be used for inference only; we do not use your data to train our own models, and we select providers on terms that do not use submitted content to train their models for this use. AI output is returned to you and treated as part of your tree. If you never use these features, your tree data is not sent to any AI provider.

7. Relative matching & notifications

To help families find each other, we may compare limited identifying signals you provide about yourself (such as your name and birth year) against people recorded in other members' trees. If there is a strong match, we may send the other tree's owner a notification that someone matching a person in their tree is a member, and invite them to connect — without revealing your email, contact details, or other personal data — and we may tell you that you may already appear in other trees. The feature only opens the door to a connection; it never discloses, publishes, or sells your information. You can turn matching off in your account settings.

8. Information about other people

Genealogy necessarily involves information about relatives, some living. When you add such information, you are responsible for having an appropriate basis to do so and for handling it lawfully and respectfully. If you are a living person who appears in someone's tree and you'd like that information reviewed, corrected, or removed, contact us at hello@dynasty.house and we will work with the relevant account holder in good faith. We act on behalf of the account holder who entered the data and will route such requests appropriately.

9. Who we share information with (subprocessors)

We do not sell your data. We share it only with service providers who help us operate the Service, each limited to what their role requires:

  • Cloudflare — hosting, storage (databases and media), content delivery, and security.
  • Stripe — subscription billing and payment processing.
  • Resend — sending transactional email.
  • OpenRouter (routing to model providers such as Anthropic and Google) — generating AI output you request.
  • Google — optional "Sign in with Google" authentication, if you use it.

We may also disclose information if required by law or valid legal process, to protect the rights, safety, and security of our users, the public, or Dynasty House, or in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets — in which case we will require the recipient to honor this Policy or notify you of any material change.

10. Where your information is processed

Dynasty House is operated from the United States, and our providers operate global infrastructure (for example, Cloudflare's worldwide network). This means your information may be processed in the United States and other countries. Wherever it is processed, this Policy applies and we take steps to keep it protected.

11. Your rights & choices

Wherever you live, the Service gives you meaningful control over your information:

  • Access & portability: view your data in the app and export your complete tree as a standard GEDCOM file at any time, for free.
  • Correction: edit any person or detail in your trees directly.
  • Deletion: delete a person, a tree, or your entire account. Account deletion permanently removes your trees, photos, and personal data from our active systems.
  • Object / opt out: turn off relative matching, decline AI features (simply don't use them), and unpublish any public house.
  • Withdraw consent / close account: stop using the Service and delete your account whenever you wish.

To exercise any of these, use the in-app controls or email hello@dynasty.house. We will respond within a reasonable time and will not charge you for honoring a reasonable request.

12. How long we keep information

We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. When you delete content or your account, we remove it from our active systems promptly; residual copies in routine, encrypted backups age out on our ordinary backup cycle. We may retain limited information longer where required to comply with law, resolve disputes, or enforce our agreements.

13. How we protect information

We use industry-standard safeguards — encryption in transit, hashed passwords, access controls, and reputable infrastructure (Cloudflare) — to protect your information. No system is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we work to protect your family's records and to notify you and the appropriate authorities of a significant breach as required by law.

14. Children

The Service is intended for people 16 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16 as a Dynasty House account holder. If you believe a child under 16 has created an account, contact us and we will take appropriate steps. (Trees may, of course, contain records about children who are family members; those are entered by adult account holders subject to Section 8.)

15. Third-party links

The Service may link to external sites (for example, research resources). We are not responsible for the privacy practices of sites we don't operate; review their policies before sharing information with them.

16. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Policy as the Service evolves. If we make a material change, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify you by email or an in-app notice. Our core promises — we don't sell your data, mine it for ads, or train our models on it — are commitments we intend to keep.
