Their story
Robert Stewart, Duke of Albany, born at Dundonald Castle in 1339, was a prominent figure in Scottish governance during a turbulent era. As the son of King Robert II, he held significant influence, notably serving as Governor of Scotland for prolonged periods under his brother Robert III and nephew James I. His political acumen and strategic maneuvering were instrumental in maintaining relative stability amidst internal strife and external pressures. While he never formally held the Scottish crown, his de facto leadership shaped the kingdom for decades. He passed away at Stirling Castle in 1420, leaving a lasting impact on the trajectory of the House of Stewart and Scottish history.
