Their story

Robert III, born John Stewart at Scone Palace around 1330, ascended the Scottish throne in 1390. As the eldest son of Robert II, he was the second monarch of the House of Stewart. His reign, marked by a gentle disposition, faced challenges from powerful nobles and chronic infirmity. Though titled King of Scots, much of the practical governance fell to his brother, the Duke of Albany, reflecting the period's turbulent political landscape. He outlived his eldest son and heir, David, and died at Rothesay Castle on April 13, 1406, leaving his remaining son as heir to a kingdom grappling with internal strife.
